Flaka Haliti, Artist of Kosovo’s Pavilion in the Biennale of Venice

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Memli Krasniqi took a decision to nominate Flake Haliti, the Artist of the Pavilion of the Republic of Kosovo in the 56th edition of International Art Exhibition in Venice Biennale, whereas, Nicolaus Schaffhausen was nominated as Curator of Pavilion.

Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports was assigned the Commissioner of the Republic of Kosovo for International Art Exhibition in the Biennale of Venice 2015, represented by Secretary General, Veton Firzi.

Pursuance with the decision made on Friday:

• The Commissioner is assigned to work closely with the Curator and to support the project execution, manages the project, manages the budget including also the potential donations, searches and contracts potential areas for placing the exhibition, communicates with journalists, communicates with officials of the Biennale, as well as, provides administrative support, as per request of the Curator. Moreover, he shall be available to the Curator to assist him from the development of the idea up to the final presentation.

• The Curator, in cooperation with the Artist, is assigned to design, develop and implement the concept of exhibition. The Curator and the Artist shall be ready to work closely with the Commissioner in order to implement the exhibition concept and together are authors of the idea and concept of the exhibition.

• The Curator and the Artist, under the consent of the Commissioner, may engage the staff for certain professional work, if this is necessary for the successful organisation of the exhibition.

• The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports undertook expenses for the organisation of the exhibition, up to 120.000 Euros, including the coordination of potential donations.

Find below the biography of Flaka Halitit and Nicolaus Schaffhausen

-Flaka Haliti (*1982, Prishtina) lives and works in Munich, Prishtina and Venice. Her work is conceptual, based on mix-media. She was graduated in 2006 from the Academy of Arts, University of Prishtina and afterwards in 2008-2013, continued and finished her education in Städelschule, with the title Meisterschule of Beautiful Art, Frankfurt am Main. Since 2013, she is a participator in the PhD in practice in the Academy of Beautiful Arts in Venice.

She is the winner of the Price Muslim Mulliqi in 2014, organised by National Gallery of Kosovo and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Kosovo. The Winner of Henkel Art Award 2013, a price awarded in cooperation with CulturContact Austria and Museum of Contemporary Art in Venice – mumok, the winner of 54th October Salon 2013, Beograd. And the first price winner of Agriculture and Banking, organized by Städelschule and Rentenbank Frankfurt.

Nicolaus Schaffhausen (1965) is a very remarkable artist and curator. He is the establisher of several cultural institutions in Europe. He currently is the director of Kunsthalle Wien in Austria and strategic director of Fogo Island Arts, an initiation of Canadian Shore-fast Foundation.

Nicolaus Schaffhausen was the Curator of the Pavilion of Germany in the Biennale of Venice, in the 52nd and 53rd edition, in 2007 and 2009.

Furthermore, he was the co-curator of the Biennale of Brussels in 2008, as well as of the Festival Media City Seoul. Mr. Schaffhausen curated also a significant number of different individual and collective exhibitions in different countries of the world.
