Minister Krasniqi visit in Dresnik – new interesting archaeological findings

The continuous excavations in the archaeological locality in Dresnik of Klina resulted in new very interesting and important findings for getting acquainted with the early civilisation in Kosovo. This year, from the excavations implemented are found two more colourful mosaic chambers. Last year, an object with 4 mosaic chambers was found, each of them separate. Besides them, this year, a wall was found surrounding the ancient city, with a width of 3.7 metres. Furthermore, coins of different Roman emperors were found from the 3rd and 4th century, as well as, pieces of marble monuments and piles. Whereas in some excavated landers are found walls and structures of different objects. Archaeologists from the Archaeology Institute of Kosovo consider thereupon a city of Dardan was found belonging to the Roman period.

Today, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Memli Krasniqi came to Dresnik in order to see closely the works and finings that were done. He congratulated archaeologists for the work conducted that started two years ago and considered this locality as of significant importance.

“Undoubtedly, the results from excavations are evident. Drensik is one of the most important archaeological localities not only in Kosovo but also in the region, and as such, it shall remain in our priority list for the years coming, too. We shall support the Archaeology Institute of Kosovo to continue with excavations in this area of 30 hectares in which lays the ancient city”, said Minister Krasniqi. Furthermore, he said that it was planned for Dresnik to become one of the most important points in Kosovo.

“Besides the new findings and conservation, as we told at the beginning, we shall have Dresnik in high priority list and support the Archaeology Institute of Kosovo to transform this area into an archaeological park, and thus, become one of the tourist attraction points of our country”, he said.

Archaeologist Masar Valla, who guided the excavations in this locality, said that besides others the findings are a great contribution for the science. He thanked the minister for his continuous support for the excavation process, in general, and those in Dresnik, in particular. Mr Valla said that there shall be continuous work up to the excavation of the whole area, that shall lead to the total discovery of the city.

Director of Culture in the Municipality of Klina, Tushe Mehmetaj, said that the discovery of this city of Dardan is very important for their municipality. This discovery, she added further, shall be a significant element to the development of tourism, as an important aspect for economic development.
