Competition on photography Wiki Loves Monuments organized in Kosovo and Albania

Wiki Loves Monuments is an international competition of the photographs of monuments, organised in global level by Wikimedia in over 40 countries of the world. Wikimedia is a Foundation that stands behind Wikipedia’s free encyclopaedia, with voluntary authors from all over the world. Cultural heritage is an important part of knowledge which Wikipedia collects and shares. Everybody may contribute adding images, or write articles. An image is of worth a thousand words, in every language at the same time, and local enthusiasts can re-discover the cultural, historic or scientific importance of their surroundings.

Since 2012, voluntary communities of Wikipedia, organise an international competition of photography every September along with people and institutions of good will, in view of promoting their heritage and culture to all world. This September, this competition is organised for the first time also in Kosovo and Albania by FLOSSK and Open Labs Albania.

Organisers -- FLOSSK in Kosovo and Open Labs in Albania – supported by Institutes on Monument Protection of the Ministries of Culture of the both countries, wish to promote their heritage and culture worldwide through this competition facilitating access via digital means in their cultural monuments. This competition coincides also with days of European heritage in Kosovo starting on 19.9.2014 at the Institute on Monument Protection in Kosovo.

By the mid of September, for a month flat-out, this competitions is developed alongside in Kosovo and Albania. Common outcomes from international competition shall be published on 26 October. The best 10 photos of both countries shall be selected by from competition in order to participate in international competition. Afterwards, these photographs shall be evaluated by the jury of Wikimedia, which shall award the best images from all participating countries. Outcomes of the competition shall be disclosed in December.

Lists of monuments for the both countries are made accessible by the organisers of Kosovo and Albania on the web page wikilovesmonuments.al. with necessary rules and explanations for participation.

FLOSSK (flossk.org) in Kosovo and Open Labs (openlabs.cc) in Albania are non-profitable organisations which among other things deal with the promotion of free access in culture and open knowledge, the closest symbolised with Wikipedia free encyclopaedia.
