16.04.2021

Violeta Rexhepagiq, a prominent Kosovo personality with sensational activities in local and international reporting journalism, investigative journalism, music composition, musical performance, lyric writing.

One of the most avant-garde and alternative musicians of the lively scene of the 1980s, with the well-known group "Vivien", together with the other prominent personality of the modern music scene, Armend Rexhepagiq.

Kosovo's musical ecosystem - especially the informal music scene that includes the heritage of modern genres, with aesthetic roots in the prosperous fields of rock'n'roll, where Kosovo has a history from the 1960s with rock bands like Blue Star, Marimanga, yesterday a string of other first generation bands, which today numbers more than 400 bands and musicians - would look very different without the catalytic personality of alternative music culture, new wave, post-punk etc.

Violeta's activity, which channeled several musical styles from the 1980s onwards, can be said to have had similar approaches to the famous Kate Bush, but also performance visual approach between new-wave, post-punk groups with a dose of romanticism and with characteristic details of the aesthetics of the designer Vivienne Westwood.

Her music and that of the group "Vivien" is full of drama, fantasy, expressive expression and at the same time very intimate with special emphasis on socio-cultural emancipation.

Her songs are an expression of an important part of the state of mind of the youth of Kosovo, which is the narrative necessary to understand the complexity of socio-cultural developments in Kosovo in the second half of the twentieth century and the spiritual and musical heritage which continues to document this specific time in the modern history of Kosovo.

She is very special because she documented the transition of the social position of women in Kosovar society, with all its challenges.

This special activity fulfills and inspires every generation in Kosovo in many levels and fields of activity, creates bridges between generations where we see special aesthetic-cultural development and interconnection and continuity of social principles and values from the middle of the twentieth century to the new generations of local musical actors of the three post-war waves such as Blerta Kosova, Edona Vatoci, Oborri, Cute Babulja, Por-No, Asgje sikur dielli, etc. to Kosovo contributors abroad such as Andrra.

One of the most important initiators of modern Kosovar culture that through her journalistic, musical, socio-cultural activity contributed a lot to the emancipation and raising awareness of human values, gender equality, enrichment of the aesthetic musical fund and the development of Kosovar rich culture.

This activity that spans over several decades, with a variety of activities, especially in the 1980s, took the necessary steps that we in Kosovo today can be inspired by a personality who with perseverance and outstanding activity defended the freedom of expression and recognition of musical culture in the region and the world.

Kosovar culture will ensure that the work of Violeta Regjepagiq is passed on to all generations in Kosovo.
