Minister Gashi: I urge for more support to women in leading sports positions

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Kujtim Gashi, participated in the official opening of the European Week of Sports, which is being held for the first time in Kosovo, and which started with the Gender Equality and Diversity Conference.

On this occasion, Minister Gashi said that "not by chance the European sports week begins with this conference addressing the issue of gender equality and diversity, thus reiterating the priorities of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and in particular of the Ministry of Culture, Youth for Sport on Empowerment of the position of women and girls in sports ".

"Supporting diversity and gender equality means treating people regardless of na-tionality, belief, gender, age, physical ability, accepting their particulars, and taking into account their individual rights and dignity," said Minister Gashi.

Minister Gashi also talked about the con-tribution that sports leads to the social, economic and political empowerment of women and girls, "I call on women to support women's leadership positions as well as in the effort to guarantee access to all resources and opportunities for progress", said Minister Gashi.

He also said that the cul-minating results of our athletes in the international arena are proof of the potential that our sports-men have and what we as a society and institutions should do in further advancement and strength-ening their position in sport, added Minister Gashi.

Meanwhile, the President of the Koso-vo Olympic Committee, Besim Hasani, said "I thank Minister Gashi, who is constantly showing com-mitment to sport and stressed that the creation of a balanced gender environment requires access by all actors who make decisions on gender equality.

"It is good that we started and are part of the world map for gender equality in sport. Today's conference is special. Throughout the week there will be diverse activities. Closing of the week will be made by the pre-Olympic committee. I know it's a tough challenge, but with the will and the real strategy we will succeed", said the chairman Hasani.
