Minister Gashi: The EU is unfairly denying our youth freedom of movement

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Kujtim Gashi took part in the official opening ceremony of activities for marking the International Youth Day. The activities on this occasion have been opened by the cultural association "Molla e Kuqe" and the non-governmental organizations "Access", which, with the support of MCYS have organized the installation and artistic performance where the EU flag is completed with the message that Kosovo is ready for visa liberalization.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Kujtim Gashi, said that "The state of Kosovo, young people of Kosovo should have open doors to the European Union, and I am very confident that this activity coincides with the criteria and those that the state of Kosovo has fulfilled the conditions to have open doors in the European Union. I believe this year is the year when young people of the Republic of Kosovo, who unjustly have problems with free movement, will be free, equal to all the young people of Europe. "

While Arianit Jashari from the "Access" organization said "Access Organization in collaboration with Molla e Kuqe has made an installation on the square to symbolize the six stars of Kosovo in some form that Kosovo is ready and the EU should open the doors for liberalization so that young people can move freely", said Jashari.

In the framework of activities for marking the International Youth Day, Minister Gashi participated in the debate with civil society for supplementing/amending the Law on Empowerment and Participation of Youth through the motto "Safe Spaces for Youth". This motto is recommended to governments around the globe by the United Nations General Assembly. This concept has the promotion of safe spaces for young people as well as the aim of the Department of Youth is to offer numerous, creative and safe opportunities for all young people without racial, gender, religious or cultural background to contribute freely to the community .

Minister Gashi said that "I have never been happy that there is only day of Youth marked. We will mark 365 days of youth because Youth is the most vital part of our society. The reason for supplementing / amending the Law on Youth is that we now have a strong youth developments not only in Kosovo but throughout the European Union, we are now 10 years after the implementation of this law so now many things have changed and we have decided to amend this law", said Minister Gashi.

"Be assured that the state of the youth sector will change for the better. We are implementing some projects that are for the benefit of young people, but we are never satisfied. The law is being made for young people, and for the last few years we have seen that our youth is fleeing to other countries and as a state we must be worried. But we have to offer alternatives because there is capacity", said Minister Gashi.

Among other things, Minister Gashi said that "Until the end of the year we will have the opportunity to discuss with different law organizations not only in Prishtina but in all cities of Kosovo to consider the demands that these youth centers and organizations of young people and youth have for the amendment of this law", said Minister Gashi.
