Kosovo, the organizer of the European Week of Sports in September 2018

For the first time, Kosovo will host the European Week of Sports, from 23 to 30 September this year. This initiative of the European Commission to promote sport and physical activity throughout Europe will be organized for the first time in Kosovo this year.

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, as the most responsible for implementing the policies and organization of sports in the Republic of Kosovo, is the bearer and leader of this process.

MCYS has established the National Coordinating Body for the Organization and Performance of the European Week of Sport in our country. The team will be comprised of: Daut Thaqi - Political Advisor for Sports – Chair; Ibër Alaj - Head of Sports Department - member; Shasivar Haxhijaj - Secretary General of the Kosovo Olympic Committee - member; Njomza Emini - Kosovo Olympic Committee - member; Brikena Mulliqi - Gashi - Head of the Department of European Integration - member; Feim Hoxha - Head of Legal Department - Member.

In the course of the meetings, this troupe at this initial stage has been gathered today for planning this week's agenda, which will be organized in Kosovo as well. Among the issues that were discussed at the first meeting were the federations that will participate in their activities during this week, locations in different cities of Kosovo where these activities will be held and other details that remain to be further clarified in the next meetings that this troupe will hold.

Within the Week, besides the various sports activities of a competitive and physical nature, various scientific conferences and seminars will be organized, related to sport education, promotion and healthy life that sports activities provide.

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports will be the main supporter of the European Week of Sports in Kosovo.

The Week is organized in 32 countries so far, with over 34,000 events and 10 million people attending various events.
