On the occasion of International Volunteer Labour Day which is marked today worldwide, the Administrative Instruction on Voluntary Work of Youth has been signed, which is a product of the Law on Youth Empowerment and Participation of Youth, amendments of which were implemented by the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports, supported by the OSCE Mission in Kosovo and the UNICEF Office in Kosovo.

During the ceremony held at the National Library, Deputy Minister Hoti, talking about this administrative instruction which comes into force today, said that it is extremely important because it recognizes the status and rights of youth voluntary work.

Speaking of voluntary work in Kosovo, Deputy Minister stressed that Kosovo has a long tradition in this regard since the '90s where it has proven good practice of volunteering in various fields, especially in education.

Hoti said that together with civil society, they will work on the design of the Draft Law on volunteers.

Meanwhile, Jan Braathu, Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, also former ambassador, supported the concept of the Deputy Minister Hoti regarding Kosovo’s early voluntarism, considering it as very important.

However, talking about Administrative Instruction, Braathu said that this event is also an opportunity for the OSCE to re-affirm its strong interest to continue working in the field of youth voluntarism.

Braathu said that the OSCE will remain committed to youth empowerment and public participation in general in Kosovo.

Further, James Mugaju, head of the UNICEF Office in Kosovo said that this platform contributes to a better transition from school to work, and increases professional opportunities for young people.

He said that opportunities for volunteering are the ticket to a better life.
