Minister Dumoshi's message on the World Book and Copyright Day

23.04.2020

Dear writers, publishers, publicists, literary and creative critics in the field of literature,

Dear men of letters,

Today, we celebrate the World Book and Copyright Day, a date set by UNESCO to encourage reading and make the book a possession of everyone.

On this day, when the world runs without powerful personalities, such as Shakespeare and Cervantes, we mark the day of the book; as the most beautiful invention for sharing ideas beyond the boundaries of space and time. The one that remains the most powerful impetus and force of the eradication of poverty and the building of peace.

Kosovo boasts of the literary heritage that many personalities have left over the years. Therefore, with the most humble respect, I would like to remember all the prominent personalities of our literature who, through their books, nurtured our ideals and souls. All the men of letters, who with their commitment make their knowledge accessible to each of us.

As Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, I want to assure all creators, authors and publishers in Kosovo, that I will make continuous efforts through institutional forms and channels, for the preservation and support of literary creativity.

Knowing well the challenges of the creative and publishing community in Kosovo, I would like to emphasize that another important segment equally related to literary and journalistic creativity is the Copyright. I consider that despite the steps taken by the MCYS against piracy and counterfeiting, we are still waiting for other steps through which we ensure that the work of each author receives the evaluation and protection it needs.

I express my deepest consideration for the commitment of every creator, publisher, critic and publicist and I assure you of my unreserved support that together, we will give to the book far better days.

Vlora Dumoshi
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport
