Minister Gashi met with the working team for Drafting the Draft Law on Cultural Heritage

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Kujtim Gashi, received today in his office the members of the working team for Drafting the Draft Law on Cultural Heritage. This meeting comes after the adoption of the Concept Paper on Cultural Heritage by the Government of Kosovo and the appointment of this team with the decision of the Secretary General of the MCYS.

Minister Gashi congratulated the working group for the work and provided constant support by pledging to work together to finalize the drafting of the Draft Law on Cultural Heritage.

He said: "Today I met with the working team for drafting the Draft Law on Cultural Heritage, which is responsible to work on drafting the Draft Law on Cultural Heritage. It is the first meeting of the drafting team for the Draft Law on Heritage, in the framework of our planning for advancing the legal infrastructure, considering that the current law does not meet the requirements of time and we must work to push this law forward".

From the working team, Minister Gashi asked for cooperation with civil society and international organizations in order to have a law that has consulted all parties.

"My commitment as Minister of MCYS has been and remains the improvement of the working conditions, investment in the institutions of culture, but also the enhancement of institutional performance and enrichment of cultural life and protection of cultural heritage in our country", added Minister Gashi. He also said: "The fulfillment and advancement of the legal and infrastructural framework in accordance with international practices and standards remains one of my priorities as minister of Culture Youth and Sports as defined in the Program of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo.

On drafting the Draft Law on Cultural Heritage, Minister Gashi said that it is one of the many legislative and implementing measures in the field of cultural heritage, which also coincides with the beginning of the European Year.

"The handling of cultural heritage should be done in an integrated way, such as architectural heritage, spiritual heritage, archaeological heritage, cultural landscapes and all assets under state protection should be protected, preserved, studied and promoted as much as possible and become sites of tourist map of the Republic of Kosovo ", he said.

"Preservation, protection and promotion of cultural heritage remains my priority as Minister of Culture Youth and Sports and the Government of the Republic of Kosovo defined by the Constitution of Kosovo as a special sector with a key role in the development of the state," concluded Minister Gashi.

Meanwhile, the members of the working team pledged that they will be fully committed to working until the finalization of Drafting of the Draft Law on Cultural Heritage.
