Gashi: Kosovo youth, a factor of peace and security in the region

12.08.2018

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Kujtim Gashi, in the framework of activities for marking the International Youth Day participated in the panel discussion "The role of youth in building peace and security".

Minister Gashi said that "With the participants of this conference we agreed that the role of youth in the construction of peace and security is essential and very important, therefore we must create space and legal and youth mechanisms that will contribute to peace and security not only in Kosovo but also beyond".

Minister Gashi said that it is concerning the participation of Kosovar youth in wars or foreign conflicts. Our young people have often fallen victim to different calls, we are worried. Preventive mechanisms should also be established here and in this context we have called for projects aimed at raising the awareness of young people not to fall victim of calls for participation in wars", said Gashi.

"The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports has decided to change the legal framework and program for 2019 to include the youth projects strategy." We are interested in adapting our programs to the needs of young people. We will be together as a youth community and institutions to make this change possible and easily feasible", said Minister Gashi.

Meanwhile, Arianit Jashari, a Kosovo youth representative at the Governing Board of the Regional Youth Cooperation Office in Tirana (RYCO), said that "We must first change and empower, and then go regionally. This law will clearly define mechanisms and institutions, I hope that youth will be treated as a very important factor in politics. Youth should be given more space so the strategy designed will be their voice".
