Minister Gashi: Distinguished sportspeople, ambassadors and best representatives of our state

The Kosovo Olympic Committee in a solemn ceremony held today has awarded 19 Olympic scholarships to the most successful athletes in Kosovo regarding the preparations for the Olympics “Tokyo 2020”.

The ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Kujtim Gashi, who expressed his satisfaction about the organization of the solemn ceremony of signing contracts with the 19 best athletes in Kosovo led by Majlinda Kelmendi, winner of Olympic gold medal at the Olympics of Rio.

Minister Gashi ensured the support of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports for the Kosovo Olympic Committee and pledged for the support of athletes who achieve positive results and that the support of distinguished athletes, who are the ambassadors of Kosovo and the best representatives of the state, will be a special priority.

"I am here with you in this solemn ceremony to show my commitment as minister and to guarantee MCYS support for the Kosovo Olympic Committee and to pledge to support athletes who achieve positive results and to show that we will support the distinguished athletes who are the ambassadors and the best representatives of our state", said Minister Gashi.

Besim Hasani, President of the Kosovo Olympic Committee, said that thanks to the criteria set by KON's Olympic Solidarity, based on good experiences from the Rio 2016 Olympic cycle and the experiences of the National Olympic Committees, the executive board of the KOC has selected 19 most successful athletes from Kosovo to be the recipient of the "Tokyo 2020" Olympic scholarship. He also noted that the 19 selected athletes belong to eight individual Olympic sports and 9 of them are females.

In addition, he thanked the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports for providing assistance to the KOC in meeting the strategic objectives.
