University sports will be supported by the ministry

Minister Kujtim Gashi met today the Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports, Musa Selimi and the heads of the University Sports Federation of Kosovo, with whom he discussed the state of the sport in our country, especially about young people and students who are involved in sports activities.

The Minister briefed the dean Selimi about the work and obligations that the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports has for the fields that it deals with, and in this framework also sport comes as one of the most important sectors, taking into account its role in society .

Minister Gashi said that MCYS is constantly working to improve conditions in sport, capital investments, but also through other forms of support to sports federations and this support will continue to increase in the coming year.

Meanwhile, Selimi congratulated the minister for taking office and informed him about the faculty’s commitment and work in educating young athletes and discovering talented people. At the same time, he informed Minister Gashi about the establishment of the Federation of Sports Universities of Kosovo (FSUK) in March this year and its acceptance in August in the International Federation of Sports Universities (FISU). Selimi said that since the sports activities to students in Kosovo are not at a satisfactory level, we have taken this initiative for the establishment of this federation, which will affect the increase of sports activities in Kosovo and its affirmation. He said that until now the support for the federation has been limited and expects the ministry will support the federation in question, and for which Minister Gashi pledged that by 2018, FSUK will be supported as other sports federations and starting from the next year, sports will be prioritized on the basis of results and support for federations will be done according to them.

The Minister also briefed Dean Selimi on the steps to be taken soon in order to fulfill the legal and sub-legal acts that will significantly help in improving the management, increase support and quality in sport, by initiating the law on facility management and regulation for sponsorship deriving from the law on sponsorship that is already in force, where we as ministry will work with partners and stakeholders to fulfill these goals, said Gashi.
